High School Student Expelled After Assaulting Teacher in Class
In a troubling incident at a high school in Seoul, a third-year male student was expelled after physically assaulting a female teacher during class. According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, the Gangseo Yangcheon Education Support Center decided on May 9 to enforce a forced transfer for the student, which was communicated to both the student and the teacher involved. The student and his parents are required to undergo special education and psychological counseling, while the affected teacher will also receive psychological support. The measures for students who disrupt educational activities include community service, special education, and, in severe cases, expulsion. The incident occurred on April 10, when the student struck the teacher in the face with his hand while holding a mobile phone. Witnesses reported that the student was playing a game on his phone during class, and after being reprimanded by the teacher, a confrontation ensued, leading to the assault.
