Heo Nam-jun Discusses His Role in 'Now, the Phone is Ringing' and the Influence of DAY6

Actor Heo Nam-jun has revealed that he prepared for his role as a psychiatrist and mystery YouTuber in the upcoming drama 'Now, the Phone is Ringing' by listening to songs from DAY6.
On November 21, a production presentation for the new Friday-Saturday drama 'Now, the Phone is Ringing' (planned by Kwon Seong-chang, directed by Park Sang-woo and Wi Deuk-kyu, written by Kim Ji-woon, produced by Bon Factory and Baram Pictures) took place at the MBC headquarters in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The event featured director Park Sang-woo alongside cast members Yoo Yeon-seok, Chae Soo-bin, Heo Nam-jun, and Jang Gyu-ri, who shared insights about the show.
'Now, the Phone is Ringing' is a secret romance thriller that begins with a blackmail call, focusing on a show-window couple in their third year of a politically arranged marriage. The drama showcases a talented cast, including Yoo Yeon-seok, Chae Soo-bin, Heo Nam-jun, and Jang Gyu-ri, along with the strong writing of Kim Ji-woon and the stylish direction of Park Sang-woo.
In the series, Heo Nam-jun plays the role of Ji Sang-woo, a psychiatrist who is not only handsome but also has a warm personality. He is also a mystery-focused content creator with 200,000 subscribers, who finds himself in a complicated relationship with Hong Hee-joo (played by Chae Soo-bin), causing jealousy and suspicion from her husband, Baek Sa-eon (played by Yoo Yeon-seok).
During the presentation, Heo Nam-jun explained his reasons for choosing 'Now, the Phone is Ringing,' stating, "When I first met with the director and we talked, I felt really good about it. The first reason was that I liked the director, and the second was that the script was interesting."
He added, "The character is different from me but very cool. I felt a desire to take on this challenge because he is a well-rounded character with depth. I wanted to portray a softer role."
When asked about his preparation for the dual role of psychiatrist and mystery YouTuber, Heo Nam-jun mentioned, "There aren't many scenes where I take care of patients as a psychiatrist, but I do get involved in various situations based on that knowledge and help resolve them."
He also shared his unique preparation method, saying, "I always select a few scenes I like and play songs that fit those moments while going for walks. I imagined the character while walking. When asked about the songs he listened to most frequently, he replied, 'I listened to a lot of bright rock music, especially DAY6. It really helped me,' and even expressed his gratitude to DAY6, saying, 'Thank you!'
'Now, the Phone is Ringing' is set to premiere on November 22 at 9:50 PM.
