Gunsan City Official's Viral Video Surpasses 6 Million Views

In a competitive landscape where local governments across South Korea are producing promotional videos, Gunsan City in North Jeolla Province has made headlines with a video that has surpassed 6 million views, earning the nickname 'Second Chungju Man.' As of June 11, the video titled 'Top 4 Scariest Phrases a Public Official Hears on Election Day' was posted on the city's official social media ahead of the presidential election and has garnered significant attention on both social media and YouTube.

The video features Park Ji-soo (31), a public official from the Public Relations and Cooperation Division, who dances to catchy music while introducing common villain types found at polling stations, effectively promoting voting precautions. Park previously gained online fame in November 2024 for her memorable performance in a video where she humorously portrayed a horse's kick.

Viewers of the video have expressed their admiration on social media, with comments like, "She deserves a bonus for this!" and "Is she a professional actress?" Some even remarked, "I'm not a Gunsan citizen, but this video drew me in!"

In an interview with Yonhap News, Park explained that the election promotional video was initially the responsibility of another department, but due to its unique concept and a lack of available personnel, she volunteered to take part. "Being the youngest in the department, I didn't have any reservations about filming, so I stepped up," she said.

Park admitted that she felt shy at first and kept the filming a secret due to the humorous nature of the content. However, as the views began to rise, friends started reaching out to her. "I was surprised by the overwhelming response, as I thought I was just filming a regular promotional video for our department," she added.

Regarding the nickname 'Second Chungju Man,' Park expressed her admiration for Kim Seon-tae, a public official known for his 'B-grade sensibility' approach that transformed Chungju City's official YouTube channel, ChungTV, into a top promotional platform among local governments. Kim, who joined the workforce in October 2016, achieved rapid promotion to a level 6 public official in just seven years due to his contributions.
