Gong Yoo Discusses Acting with Seo Hyun Jin in 'Trunk'

In a recent interview, actor Gong Yoo shared his thoughts on working with Seo Hyun Jin in the Netflix series 'Trunk'. The interview took place on December 5 at a café in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
'Trunk' is a mystery romance that unveils a secret marriage service linked to a trunk that appears by a lakeside, exploring the unusual marriage story of two individuals. Gong Yoo plays Han Jeong Won, a music producer haunted by past traumas, who meets his second wife, In Ji (Seo Hyun Jin), through a temporary spouse service requested by his ex-wife, Seo Yeon (Jung Yoon Ha).
Gong Yoo expressed his admiration for Seo Hyun Jin, stating, "I really wanted to act with Seo Hyun Jin. I’ve been a fan of hers, and watching her perform, I found her to be incredibly precise and deeply understanding of her roles, which helped me a lot."
He also noted, "I think she has a relentless side to her as an actress and a person. I realized that she must maintain her figure, as she is sharp, intelligent, and meticulous in her craft." He recalled a particularly intense scene in the second part of the series where Seo Hyun Jin's character experiences a moment of despair. "I wanted to see it on the monitor, and although viewers only see a condensed version in the final cut, that take was quite lengthy," he explained.
Gong Yoo reflected on the emotional toll such performances can take, saying, "I believe it must have been very challenging for her. Such acting requires a lot of energy, and even though it’s acting, it can leave a mark on the performer. I felt that the emotional weight of her performance would linger with her for a long time, which is why I found her approach to be quite relentless."
The Netflix series 'Trunk' premiered on November 29, 2024.
