Go Min-si Donates 50 Million Won to Support Vulnerable Seniors and Single-Parent Families

On November 20, 2024, it was announced that actress Go Min-si has made a generous donation of 50 million won to assist elderly individuals living alone and vulnerable groups during the winter season. This contribution was facilitated through the international development NGO, G Foundation, led by Park Chung-kwan.

The funds will be allocated to support the stable living conditions of elderly individuals, covering expenses such as rent, utility bills, and heating costs, ensuring they have a warm winter. The donation will also aid other vulnerable populations in need.

Go Min-si has a history of philanthropy, having previously supported single-parent families through G Foundation in 2020, and in 2023, she donated 30 million won to assist children, teenagers, and single-parent households in celebration of Family Month.

By consistently engaging in charitable activities for vulnerable groups in South Korea, Go Min-si aims to bring warmth and support to elderly individuals living alone and those in need during the cold winter months. She expressed her hope that her donation would inspire greater social awareness and support for those who require assistance.

In her statement, Go Min-si said, "I hope this donation will be used effectively to help elderly individuals living alone and other vulnerable groups during the winter. As the weather gets colder, I wish for my contribution to help seniors have a warmer winter. I believe that our society's attention and solidarity can bring significant changes to someone's daily life, which motivated me to make this donation."

Park Chung-kwan, the head of G Foundation, highlighted the critical issue of elderly poverty in South Korea, noting that the country has the highest elderly poverty rate among OECD nations, with over half of seniors aged 80 and above living in poverty. He emphasized that winter is particularly harsh for the elderly, who face challenges related to livelihood, health, and housing during this season. He remarked, "The issue of elderly poverty is a structural challenge our society faces, and Go Min-si's donation is a meaningful action that goes beyond financial support, calling for social attention. We will do our utmost to convey her warm intentions effectively."

G Foundation holds Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) and actively engages in various projects, including educational support and healthcare initiatives in developing countries, as well as domestic programs for children, teenagers, low-income women, and social economy projects.
