Go Hyun-jung Reflects on Motherhood and Past Relationships in First Talk Show Appearance in 15 Years

Actress Go Hyun-jung made a rare appearance on a talk show after 15 years, discussing her children from her marriage to Jeong Yong-jin, the chairman of Shinsegae Group. During the episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' aired on November 27, she expressed that many people are curious about her children, stating, "As a mother, I just want to be comfortable, but that’s a distant dream."

Go shared her feelings of sadness regarding the emotional distance she feels from her children, saying, "When I realized that not being close felt this sad, it hit me hard. It’s something that can’t be filled because it’s gone. I felt very upset about it."

Go Hyun-jung rose to fame in 1995 with the SBS drama 'Sandglass' and married Jeong Yong-jin shortly after, announcing her retirement from the entertainment industry. The couple welcomed a son and a daughter but divorced in 2003 after eight years of marriage. She made her comeback in 2005 with the drama 'Spring Days' and has continued to work actively in the industry. Recently, she has been engaging more with the public by launching an Instagram account and a YouTube channel.

Reflecting on her past, Go mentioned, "'Sandglass' was a hugely popular drama, and at that time, I was starting a new chapter in my life. I abruptly left to get married when people were still interested in me." She noted that her focus on her relationship made her feel that filming the drama was interfering with her love life.

Go expressed regret about marrying during her peak popularity, saying, "Just before having my first child, I learned about the strong reactions to 'Sandglass' and felt guilty, thinking, 'What have I done?' I realized I had been irresponsible. I thought I was living my life perfectly, but I felt leaks in my happiness at that moment." She added, "I cried a lot but couldn’t share my tears with anyone, as there weren’t many who could empathize with me."

She also reminisced about her romantic experiences in her twenties, saying, "I suddenly fell in love and didn’t realize how enjoyable it could be. I was completely absorbed in it, feeling like everything was going my way." She described love as something that deeply colored her twenties, noting, "Love is profound and doesn’t come around often."

In closing, Go Hyun-jung expressed her desire to share her thoughts, admitting, "I feel like I’ve often been rude in front of the public. I want to continue working as an actress who doesn’t lose the spirit of the times while aging, and I hope to connect with everyone through my projects."

She addressed concerns about her social media presence, saying, "Many people feel sorry for my children because of my YouTube and Instagram, but I don’t want to burden them. I hope you can be a little kinder and not judge too harshly." She concluded, "I want to continue living as Go Hyun-jung, born in 1971 in Korea, and I hope for fewer misunderstandings about me."

Previously, in 2009, Go Hyun-jung appeared on MBC's 'Golden Fishery - Knee Drop Guru' to clarify rumors surrounding her marriage and divorce, expressing regret for marrying too quickly and wishing she had been more mature at the time. She reflected, "Even if new love comes, I feel like I won’t have that pure passion from back then, which is a pity."
