Girls' Generation's Yuri Supports Fans at Impeachment Rally with Kimbap

On December 14, 2024, Girls' Generation member Yuri brought warmth to the impeachment rally against President Yoon Suk-yeol by pre-ordering kimbap for attending fans. Following the passing of the impeachment motion, the group's youngest member, Seohyun, expressed solidarity with fans through the lyrics of 'Damn It'.
Seohyun shared a photo of the book 'Boyhood' by Nobel Prize-winning author Han Kang on her personal social media, captioning it with, "We will be together no matter how long it takes." 'Boyhood' is set against the backdrop of the Gwangju Uprising in the 1980s and has gained renewed attention following Han's Nobel win. The recent state of emergency declared on December 3 has also sparked increased interest in the May 18 Democratic Movement.
Previously, Yuri had announced her gesture of kindness on December 13, sending a message via a private messaging platform to her fans, encouraging them to enjoy the kimbap and stay safe. She had pre-paid for the kimbap at a shop near the rally site in Yeouido, stating that fans could collect it by showing their Girls' Generation light sticks, known as 'Sowon Bong'.
The day before, Yuri had also reached out to fans, asking if they were staying warm and complimenting the beauty of their light sticks. She reminded them to dress warmly and mentioned how she enjoyed hearing 'Damn It' being sung at the rally.
Girls' Generation's debut song 'Into the New World' has become a popular anthem at the rallies, resonating with the hopeful and supportive message in its lyrics. The use of light sticks instead of candles at the protests has become a notable trend, as participants opted for the more visible and vibrant light sticks after being mocked for using candles, which can easily extinguish. The members of Girls' Generation have been expressing their support for the rally in various ways, connecting with their fans during this significant moment.
