Fuji TV President Koichi Minato Resigns Amid Sexual Scandal

Koichi Minato, the president of Fuji TV, announced his resignation on January 27, 2025, in light of a sexual scandal involving popular MC Masahiro Nakai. This decision comes as both Minato and Fuji TV's chairman, Shuji Kano, step down following revelations that Nakai engaged in 'non-consensual sexual acts' with a woman connected to the network. Minato held a press conference to address the situation, acknowledging his responsibility for allowing Nakai to continue appearing on air for a year and a half after being aware of the allegations.
During the press conference, Minato stated, 'As far as we know, there is no involvement of Fuji TV employees.' However, the allegations against the network have escalated from merely ignoring sexual assault to claims of organized sexual favors being facilitated by Fuji TV executives. Reports suggest that a senior executive arranged a meeting between Nakai and the victim, who claimed she found herself alone with Nakai at the event.
Minato, who joined Fuji TV in 1976 and became president in 2022, has faced criticism for fostering a culture within the network that allegedly encourages female announcers to accompany male entertainers for social engagements. Some insiders have accused Minato of both creating and participating in such environments, raising serious concerns about the workplace culture at Fuji TV.
