FTISLAND's Choi Min-hwan Faces Criticism Amid Controversy Over Alleged Nightclub Visits

Choi Min-hwan of FTISLAND is under scrutiny following claims made by his ex-wife, Yulhee, regarding his alleged visits to entertainment establishments and suspicions of involvement in prostitution. Yulhee revealed on her personal YouTube channel that Choi had behaved inappropriately in front of family members, including instances where he allegedly placed money in her clothing. She expressed disbelief at how she could have known about his activities, suggesting that his drunken behavior was habitual.
The situation escalated when Yulhee released audio recordings of a conversation between Choi and another man, which hinted at his visits to such establishments and raised further questions about his conduct. This shocking revelation has severely impacted Choi's public image, which had previously been that of a devoted father raising three children post-divorce. As a result, he stepped down from all ongoing television appearances and halted his activities.
The Gangnam Police in Seoul concluded their investigation into allegations of Choi violating prostitution laws and sexual assault, determining there was insufficient evidence to proceed with charges. In response, Choi issued an apology via his personal account, expressing regret for the distress he caused and vowing to demonstrate more responsibility in the future.
He also addressed fans through a communication platform, asserting that he had never engaged in prostitution and questioning how he could prove his innocence given the lack of evidence. Choi explained that his visits to hotels and motels were due to a desire for solitude, and he expressed frustration over the ongoing speculation.
Despite the police's decision to dismiss the case, doubts linger regarding Choi's explanations, leading to accusations of providing only partial clarifications. Reports surfaced on December 20 that during police questioning, Choi admitted to having frequented entertainment venues but maintained he had never engaged in prostitution. He claimed he could not recall specific visits to the establishments mentioned.
The individual identified as 'A' corroborated Choi's statement, asserting that their conversation was about going to entertainment venues rather than prostitution. The police found no substantial evidence to support the allegations of prostitution based solely on the recorded conversation.
While the police have cleared Choi of charges, the controversy continues to cast a shadow over him. His insistence on his innocence has not quelled the criticism, especially after his admission of visiting entertainment venues. Meanwhile, Yulhee has remained silent regarding Choi's recent statements but has reportedly filed for changes in custody and financial support related to their children.
