FTISLAND's Choi Min-hwan and Yulhee's Divorce Sparks Controversy with Shocking Revelations

The divorce saga of Choi Min-hwan (최민환) and Yulhee (율희), once celebrated as the youngest idol couple, has escalated into a public feud filled with accusations. Following their divorce announcement, both parties have made serious allegations against each other, igniting a fierce conflict. Yulhee has accused Min-hwan of frequenting entertainment establishments and has initiated a custody battle, while Min-hwan claims the reason for their split is Yulhee's repeated absences from home.
In an interview with Dispatch on January 13, 2025, Min-hwan opened up about the reasons behind their divorce. He stated that the controversy surrounding his visits to entertainment venues had already been forgiven by Yulhee, asserting that the real issues stemmed from Yulhee's excessive sleeping habits and her frequent departures from their home.
Min-hwan revealed that during their five years of marriage, Yulhee left home over 20 times, citing disputes as the reason. He explained, "We lived together for five years, and during that time, Yulhee left home more than 20 times, sometimes for just 1-2 days, and other times for as long as 7-10 days."
According to Min-hwan, the root of their conflicts was Yulhee's sleeping patterns, which he described as excessive, claiming she would sleep for 18-20 hours a day. This issue came to a head on August 1, 2021, leading to a significant argument that resulted in Yulhee taking their first child to her parents' home for ten days. Min-hwan had even mentioned the possibility of divorce to his manager at that time.
Despite attempts to reconcile, the couple ultimately decided to divorce on August 26, 2023, after Yulhee left home again on August 19 and returned a week later, promising not to leave again. However, just days later, she resumed her late-night outings. This pattern led Min-hwan to formally request a divorce, which they announced on December 4, 2023. Following the divorce, Min-hwan was granted custody of their three children, while Yulhee began her journey of independence.
Both Min-hwan and Yulhee appeared to be moving on with their lives post-divorce. Min-hwan continued his activities with FTISLAND and showcased his fatherly side on the KBS 2TV variety show Superman Returns (슈퍼맨이 돌아왔다). Meanwhile, Yulhee returned to the entertainment scene as an influencer and appeared on TV Chosun's Now Alone (이제 혼자다).
However, after Yulhee's revelations on her personal channel following her appearance on Now Alone, the situation took a dramatic turn. She accused Min-hwan of inappropriate behavior during their marriage, claiming he had touched her in front of family and had engaged in questionable conduct while intoxicated. This led to allegations of Min-hwan's involvement in prostitution, which he has vehemently denied, receiving a non-indictment ruling.
In response to the backlash following their divorce, Yulhee filed for a modification of custody and child support in November 2024, expressing her desire to regain custody of their children. Her legal representatives stated that this lawsuit was a heartfelt plea to be reunited with her children and that they would also seek a temporary custody arrangement and child support.
As the truth battle continues over a year after their divorce, both Min-hwan and Yulhee are making serious claims against each other, raising questions about whether they can find common ground and bring an end to this public divorce war.
