Former President Yoon Suk-yeol's Wife Summoned for Investigation

The prosecution investigating the alleged involvement of former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife, Kim Geon-hee, in political nominations has reportedly summoned Kim for questioning. According to sources, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, led by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Ji-hyung, has sent a notice to Kim Geon-hee, requesting her to appear for an investigation this week. However, her health condition raises uncertainty about whether the questioning will actually take place.
The summons is part of an inquiry into allegations surrounding political broker Myung Tae-kyun, who is suspected of influencing nominations. Kim Geon-hee is accused of receiving polling data from Myung during the 2022 presidential election and allegedly granting a nomination to former lawmaker Kim Young-sun for a by-election in return. Additionally, there are claims that she intervened in the nomination of the People Power Party's candidate for the Pohang mayoral election and exerted influence over the nomination of former prosecutor Kim Sang-min during last year's general elections.
The prosecution has reportedly communicated multiple times to Kim's representatives the necessity of a face-to-face investigation. The dedicated investigation team, which moved from the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in mid-February, has been pressing for her appearance. However, Kim's side has not confirmed her attendance, citing the ongoing impeachment trial of former President Yoon and her health issues as reasons for their indecision.
