Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Faces Third Summons from Special Investigation Team

On June 12, 2025, the Special Investigation Team of the National Police Agency announced that it has issued a third summons to former President Yoon Suk-yeol after he failed to respond to two previous requests regarding allegations of obstructing arrest and instructing the deletion of sensitive information from military phones. The team emphasized the necessity of a face-to-face investigation, stating, 'It is essential to conduct an in-person inquiry with former President Yoon, who did not comply with the second summons today.' The third summons requests his presence for questioning on June 19.

Former President Yoon is currently under investigation for allegedly directing his security detail to prevent his arrest (obstruction of special public duty) and for instructing the deletion of information related to three military commanders' secure phones (abuse of authority under the Protection of the Presidential Office Act).

The police had initially summoned Yoon on June 5, but he did not respond. On June 12, they issued a second request, which Yoon's representatives dismissed as a 'humiliating summons.' They have indicated a willingness to participate in written or on-site questioning if necessary.

Typically, if a suspect fails to respond to summonses three times without valid reasons, law enforcement may attempt to execute an arrest. Observers speculate that if Yoon does not comply with this third summons, the Special Investigation Team may seek an arrest warrant against him.
