Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Faces Special Prosecutor Investigation

On the morning of June 28, 2025, former President Yoon Suk-yeol attended his first face-to-face investigation by the special prosecutor at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, amid various allegations including insurrection and foreign exchange issues. As he arrived, he faced questions from reporters.

The Democratic Party of Korea issued a statement urging Yoon to sincerely apologize to the public and cooperate with the investigation. Spokesperson Baek Seung-ah criticized Yoon for his evasive tactics, stating, "Yoon Suk-yeol finally appeared for the special prosecutor's investigation today after employing various tricks to avoid accountability. This is not a voluntary decision to uncover the truth about the illegal martial law and insurrection conspiracy, but rather a reluctant response driven by public outrage and strong opinion."

Baek further accused Yoon of evading responsibility through delusional justifications and false explanations, noting that he attempted to use a parking garage for a discreet entrance, which he described as a shameful act to escape public scrutiny.

"The public is outraged by such evasive tactics and abuse of power," Baek stated. He recalled Yoon's previous assertion that "those who refuse special investigations are the culprits," highlighting the irony that Yoon himself blocked the introduction of a special investigation to protect his family.

Baek concluded, "Today's appearance before the special prosecutor does not absolve him of guilt; it is merely the starting point for uncovering the truth. The special prosecutor must conduct a thorough investigation into the charges of insurrection and power-related corruption. Yoon must kneel before history and the people, apologize, and face the appropriate legal consequences."
