Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Faces Ongoing Investigation

Former President Yoon Suk-yeol arrived at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu on the morning of June 28, 2025, to participate in a face-to-face investigation by the Special Investigation Team regarding insurrection. The investigation resumed at 8:25 PM after a break for dinner around 7 PM, and is expected to continue until shortly before midnight.
Yoon was questioned from 4:45 PM to 7 PM by senior prosecutors Kim Jeong-guk (35th Judicial Research and Training Institute) and Jo Jae-cheol (36th Judicial Research and Training Institute) about the decision-making process of the Cabinet meetings before and after the declaration of a state of emergency, as well as foreign exchange-related allegations. After a brief dinner and rest, he will return for late-night questioning.
Earlier, Yoon arrived at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office at 9:56 AM and was interrogated for about an hour starting at 10:14 AM by Park Chang-hwan, head of the Major Crimes Investigation Unit of the National Police Agency, regarding allegations of obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant. The Special Investigation Team intended to continue this line of questioning after lunch, but Yoon's legal team insisted that the investigation should be conducted by prosecutors rather than police, leading to a temporary halt in proceedings.
After approximately three hours of standoff, the Special Investigation Team shifted focus from the obstruction allegations to those led by prosecutors, prompting Yoon's team to comply. Special Prosecutor Park Ji-young indicated during a press briefing around 7 PM that it would be physically challenging to conclude the investigation on the same day, leaving open the possibility of additional summons. The investigation is planned to conclude before midnight, including the review of the suspect's interrogation records.
