Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Faces Interrogation Amid Controversy

On the morning of June 28, 2025, former President Yoon Suk-yeol arrived at the Special Investigation Office for Insurrection located in the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, to undergo a face-to-face interrogation. The Special Investigation team held a briefing at 7 PM, stating that the questioning resumed around 4:45 PM. They noted that they were unable to address allegations regarding obstruction of the execution of an arrest warrant and the deletion of a secret phone server during the morning session. The investigation focused on the National Security Council meetings and foreign exchange issues during the emergency martial law period of December 3, with two senior prosecutors participating as requested by Yoon's legal team.
Special Prosecutor Park Ji-young explained that the investigation faced delays due to Yoon's team refusing to participate in the afternoon session, citing that Police Chief Park Chang-hwan, who was involved in the morning session, had allegedly directed illegal arrests. Despite the Special Investigation team's efforts to clarify that Chief Park had never commanded the execution of Yoon's arrest warrant, Yoon's team continued to reject the interrogation. Consequently, the investigation into the obstruction of arrest and the deletion of the secret phone server was ultimately halted. However, Park indicated that the police would continue to handle these allegations in the future.
The Special Investigation team aims to conclude the interrogation by midnight at the latest. Yoon's team had previously requested to delay his appearance from 9 AM to 10 AM for health reasons, and the team is committed to avoiding excessive late-night questioning. Yoon has reportedly agreed to participate in questioning after 9 PM. The investigation was paused around 7 PM for dinner, with expectations to resume within an hour.
Given the extensive amount of material to cover, the Special Investigation team anticipates the need for additional summons. They plan to schedule further appearances based on the progress made during the current interrogation. Special Prosecutor Jo Eun-seok is overseeing the investigation directly from the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office.
Interestingly, within the interrogation room, the Special Investigation team refers to Yoon as 'Mr. President,' although he is officially recorded as a suspect in the documents.
