Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Appears in Court for Insurrection Charges

Former President Yoon Suk-yeol attended court on May 12, 2025, to face charges related to insurrection. He arrived at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu at approximately 9:55 AM, marking the first time he walked into the courthouse using the main entrance. As he made his way to the courtroom, reporters posed several questions, including whether he would apologize for declaring a state of emergency, if he still considered himself a proponent of liberal democracy, and if he had any messages for the citizens who participated in the presidential election. However, Yoon did not respond and continued into the courtroom. The third hearing of his trial, presided over by Judge Ji Gwi-yeon of the Criminal Division 25, commenced at 10:15 AM, focusing on the insurrection charges against him.
