Former President Yoon Suk-yeol Appears for Special Prosecutor's Investigation Amid Support Rally

On the morning of July 5, 2025, former President Yoon Suk-yeol arrived at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office to undergo questioning by a special prosecutor regarding charges of insurrection. Prior to his arrival, hundreds of supporters gathered near the office, holding flags and banners to rally behind him.
Around 8:30 AM, approximately 300 supporters (according to unofficial police estimates) gathered along the roads near the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, waving South Korean and American flags while donning red hats and sashes. They chanted slogans such as 'President Yoon Suk-yeol' and 'Arrest Lee Jae-myung.' Some held placards reading 'AGAIN YOON' and towels featuring the former president's face.
At 8:57 AM, Yoon's vehicle departed from his residence at Acro Vista, passing by the Gyodae Station and entering the east gate of the prosecutors' office at 8:59 AM. The car slowly made its way to the entrance, taking about two minutes to navigate the parking area. As the vehicle passed by the supporters gathered outside, it briefly stopped, allowing Yoon to wave to the crowd through the open window.
The atmosphere erupted in cheers as Yoon's car appeared, with supporters shouting phrases like 'Hang in there, Mr. President' and 'Yoon Again,' while some rushed towards the vehicle.
Even after Yoon entered the building, the rally continued. Supporters moved to the west side of the prosecutors' office, where a vehicle equipped with a loudspeaker repeated chants calling for the arrest of Lee Jae-myung. Some YouTubers took to the microphone, expressing confidence that 'our president will surely overcome this.' Notably, Korean history lecturer Jeon Han-gil was also present at the scene.
In contrast, about 20 supporters of Lee Jae-myung held a counter-rally across the street, wearing blue hats and scarves while brandishing signs that read 'Yoon Prison.' They exchanged heated remarks with Yoon's supporters, leading to minor scuffles. Police intervened to separate the two groups and prevent physical confrontations.
On this day, approximately 720 police officers from 12 riot control units were deployed around the prosecutors' office, an increase of four units compared to the previous appearance. Additionally, 12 security officers were stationed throughout the building.
Some supporters also gathered near Yoon's residence at Acro Vista, displaying banners and flags with messages such as 'Hang in there, President Yoon' and 'Unjust trial for President Yoon.'
