Former President Yoon Seok-yeol Faces Arrest Warrant Amid Investigation

On July 31, 2025, a South Korean court issued an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Seok-yeol after he failed to respond to two summons from the special prosecutor investigating allegations of political interference related to a figure known as Myung Tae-kyun. The special prosecutor's office had requested Yoon's presence for questioning on July 29 and 30, but he did not comply, citing health issues including worsening diabetes and elevated liver enzymes. However, the special prosecutor believes that there are no significant obstacles to conducting the investigation, even while Yoon is detained at the Seoul Detention Center. Following the swift issuance of the arrest warrant, the special prosecutor's team is considering deploying one prosecutor and one investigator to the detention center to carry out the arrest, although there are concerns about the limitations of using force against Yoon. The situation remains uncertain regarding whether the investigation will proceed as planned.
