Former Minister Lee Sang-min Summoned for Investigation into Emergency Martial Law Declaration

The Special Investigation Team of the National Police Agency, which is probing the 'Emergency Martial Law Declaration of December 3', summoned former Minister of the Interior and Safety, Lee Sang-min, for questioning on the afternoon of December 16. Lee, who is a junior to President Yoon Suk-yeol from Chungam High School and Seoul National University Law School, left his residence in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam, around 1:20 PM, accompanied by his lawyer, and arrived at the investigation team’s office around 2 PM.
Lee is under suspicion of supporting President Yoon's declaration of emergency martial law on December 3. According to current law, the Minister of National Defense and the Minister of the Interior and Safety can recommend such a declaration to the President. In response to these allegations, opposition parties and civic groups have filed charges against Lee for insurrection, and following the Democratic Party's submission of a motion for his impeachment on December 7, he resigned from his ministerial position the next day.
On December 9, the National Police Agency issued a summons for Lee and placed him under a travel ban.
