Additionally, individuals who post instructions or blueprints for firearms and explosives online can also face legal consequences. However, there are challenges in regulating foreign websites like YouTube, which host such content.

A former Samsung Electronics manager has been sentenced to six years in prison for leaking semiconductor technology to a Chinese company. This sentence, handed down by the Seoul High Court on July 23, 2025, is a reduction from the seven-year term he received in the initial trial. The court also imposed a fine of 200 million won (approximately $170,000) on the defendant, identified as Mr. Kim, for violating the Industrial Technology Protection Act. 

In a related case, Mr. Bang, a former employee of a Samsung partner company, had his appeal rejected, maintaining his original sentence of two and a half years in prison. Mr. Bang was accused of colluding with Mr. Kim to provide design technical data from a semiconductor equipment supplier to CXMT, which later successfully developed and mass-produced the 18-nanometer DRAM.

Former Samsung Executive Sentenced to 6 Years for Technology Theft

On the morning of July 23, 2025, at 10 AM, the Survivors of Seongam Academy (선감학원) held a press conference in front of the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul, urging for an official apology from the President and effective recovery measures for the victims. Approximately 70 survivors and family members from various regions, including Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do, gathered for the event.

Seongam Academy, established in 1942 on Seongam Island in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province during the Japanese occupation, was a facility where over 4,600 children and adolescents were subjected to forced labor, violence, and torture under the guise of 'rehabilitating delinquents' until 1982, during the military regime. Many of the residents died due to beatings and malnutrition.
