A former executive of Spire Entertainment has been sent to the prosecution for charges of sexual assault against members of the K-pop group Omega X. On May 22, the Seoul Hyehwa Police announced that they had forwarded the case against individual A, a director at Spire Entertainment, to the prosecution without detention. Seven members of Omega X filed a complaint against A for sexual assault on August 7, 2023. The complaint reportedly details incidents from September 2022, during which A allegedly engaged in unwanted physical contact, such as hugging and linking arms with the members at an airport in South America while traveling to a performance. Previously, in March of last year, A accused member Hwichan of sexual assault, leading to Hwichan being sent to the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office in August 2022. Additionally, A is facing trial for assaulting a member, with a sentencing date set for July 10.

The Seoul High Court has ruled in favor of Kakao Mobility, canceling the 27.1 billion KRW fine imposed by the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) over allegations of 'call manipulation.' On May 22, the court's Administrative Division 7, led by Judge Koo Hoe-geun, annulled both the fine and the corrective order issued by the FTC, stating that the commission must also bear the legal costs of the case.

Kakao Mobility faced accusations of manipulating its algorithm to favor its franchise taxi service, Kakao T Blue, which was launched in 2019. This service recruits both corporate taxi companies and individual drivers as franchisees, charging a franchise fee while providing passenger call and dispatch services through the Kakao Taxi app.

In February 2023, the FTC deemed Kakao Mobility's actions a violation of franchise business laws, leading to the hefty fine and a corrective order. Kakao Mobility contested this, arguing that their algorithm was based on the acceptance rates of taxi drivers.

As a quasi-judicial body, the FTC has the authority to impose fines on companies violating fair trade laws, and its decisions can be appealed directly to the Seoul High Court, effectively serving as the first instance of judicial review.

Following the ruling, Kakao Mobility stated that the acceptance rate of dispatches had been utilized in their Kakao T dispatch logic even before the introduction of franchise taxis, emphasizing that the court's decision confirmed their commitment to enhancing benefits for both passengers and drivers without discrimination between franchise and non-franchise drivers.

Additionally, the FTC had previously fined Kakao Mobility 15.1 billion KRW in September 2022 for allegedly blocking general calls to a competitor's franchise taxis. Kakao Mobility is currently contesting this fine as well.

The prosecution is also investigating various allegations surrounding Kakao Mobility. In March, they conducted searches at the Kakao headquarters in Pangyo and the offices of Kakao Mobility related to suspicions of inflating revenue figures. The Financial Services Commission's Securities and Futures Commission had previously imposed a fine of approximately 3.5 billion KRW on Kakao Mobility in November for overstating operating revenue and expenses.

MBC has announced the termination of its contract with a weathercaster identified as A, who was accused of workplace harassment against the late weathercaster Oh Yoo-anna. Oh Yoo-anna joined MBC in 2021 and tragically passed away in September 2022. While the exact cause of her death was not disclosed at the time, suspicions of workplace harassment arose earlier this year when her suicide note was made public. The note detailed harassment from two senior weathercasters, leading her family to file a civil lawsuit against one of them. 

The Ministry of Employment and Labor determined that Oh had received guidance and advice from her colleagues, but this escalated into repeated criticism and mental pressure. They concluded that the emotional distress she experienced, along with the unnecessary comments and the contents of her note, constituted harassment. 

However, the Ministry clarified that Oh did not qualify as a 'worker' under the Labor Standards Act, meaning the legal provisions against workplace harassment did not apply in this case, highlighting a gap in the system. 

In response, MBC stated that it takes the findings seriously and will prioritize improving organizational culture, preventing recurrence, and complying with labor laws. The network also promised to take appropriate actions regarding those involved and to review and enhance its existing plans for cultural improvement.

"Customers trusted the company (SK Telecom) while using its services, only to become victims of this incident. The damage has already been immense, and the company failed to prevent it," he stated. 

Koh criticized SK Telecom's notification process regarding the data breach, calling it "delayed and inadequate," expressing significant regret over the situation. On May 2, the commission had ordered SK Telecom to inform all potentially affected customers by May 9. However, the company only communicated the breach to its customers on that date. 

Koh noted, "The fact that SK Telecom did not notify customers until then is a major issue, and the information provided was passive and in some cases violated the Personal Information Protection Act. We deemed the notification insufficient and sent an official letter to SK Telecom regarding this matter." 

Regarding claims that North Korea or China may be behind the hacking, he remarked, "It is often difficult to confirm the perpetrators behind hacking incidents. There are traces of information from the server being transferred to an IP address in Singapore, but identifying who controls that IP is challenging. International cooperation is necessary." 

As for whether the hacked personal data has been leaked on the dark web, Koh stated, "Nothing has been discovered yet, but monitoring remains difficult." The dark web is known for being a hub for various cybercrimes, accessible only through specific software. 

Koh also warned of potential secondary damages beyond just cloned phones, indicating that various forms of harm could arise. "We are continuously monitoring the situation," he added.

Hana Securities had provided the relevant financial transaction information to the authorities. It is believed that the former branch manager informed B about the issuance of the warrant. B and others are suspected of profiting significantly from stock purchases after learning about a contract between Intellian Technologies and a major U.S. tech company in 2021.

Additionally, the current branch manager of A branch is also under investigation for allegedly leaking information to B. Last month, police executed search warrants at Hana Securities' headquarters, the A branch, and the residence of the current branch manager, suspecting that B may have destroyed evidence after receiving prior information about the investigation.
