T.O.P (real name Choi Seung-hyun), a former member of the iconic K-pop group BIGBANG, made a notable appearance at the global finale event for Netflix's original series Squid Game Season 3, held on June 28 at Seoul Plaza. This marks T.O.P's first public engagement in South Korea since receiving a suspended prison sentence for drug use in 2017, making it an event of significant interest.
During the fan event, T.O.P addressed questions regarding his absence from Season 3, stating, "I did a lot of bad things in Season 2 and faced my consequences. I have no regrets about not being in Season 3." He expressed gratitude towards director Hwang Dong-hyuk, saying, "I am thankful to be part of such a great work. I learned a lot."
In Season 2, T.O.P portrayed a retired drug-addicted rapper, a role that left a lasting impact despite his limited screen time in the recently released Season 3. His last public appearance in South Korea was linked to a legal case involving marijuana use, which occurred between October 9 and 14, 2016, at his residence in Yongsan, Seoul. He was sentenced to ten months in prison, suspended for two years, a ruling that was finalized without appeal from either side.
Earlier this year, T.O.P reflected on his past controversies in an interview, admitting, "I still feel very ashamed and believe I must reflect on it for the rest of my life." He added, "I apologize once again. If there are opportunities for me, I will do my best in any field."
Prior to the Seoul event, T.O.P also participated in a Squid Game event in the United States on June 1, where he enthusiastically promoted Season 3, stating, "I know you were surprised to see me, but I couldn't miss such a wonderful occasion."
