On July 20, 2025, the Special Investigation Team led by Jo Eun-seok filed for an arrest warrant against Kim Yong-dae, the commander of the drone operations, as part of an investigation into coup and foreign exchange allegations involving former President Yoon Suk-yeol. The team had previously detained Kim on the night of July 18. 

In a press release, the Special Investigation Team stated that they filed the warrant at 2 PM, citing reasons for securing Kim's custody, including the creation of false documents. However, the ongoing foreign exchange-related allegations were not included in the warrant request. 

The emergency arrest of Kim followed a search of his residence on July 14, during which investigators discovered a letter he had written, suggesting concerns about his potential detention.

In the first regional primary for the Democratic Party of Korea's (더불어민주당) new leadership, candidate Jung Cheong-rae (정청래) emerged victorious over Park Chan-dae (박찬대) in the Chungcheong region. On July 19, the online voting results from party members in Daejeon, Sejong, Chungnam, and Chungbuk revealed that Jung secured 62.77% of the votes, while Park received 37.23%. 

The Democratic Party's leadership election combines votes from delegates (15%), party members (55%), and public opinion polls (30%) to determine the final rankings. Initially, the party planned to hold an in-person event in Daejeon, but due to severe rain damage across the country, they opted for an online joint speech event instead. 

Upcoming primaries are scheduled for the Yeongnam region on July 20, Honam region on July 26, Gyeonggi-Incheon on July 27, and Seoul-Gangwon-Jeju on August 2.

Park highlighted his past efforts in the National Assembly, including initiating special legislation and gathering support for investigations into key judicial figures.

In one incident, a landslide caused a pension to collapse, resulting in the death of a woman in her 70s. In another case, a man in his 40s was swept away by swift currents near Daebogyo Bridge. Authorities have classified the man's wife and teenage son, who were camping nearby, as missing and are currently conducting search operations in the area.
