Former Baby V.O.X Member Lee Gai Reveals Life After 20 Years
Lee Gai, a former member of the iconic K-pop group Baby V.O.X, has resurfaced after two decades, sharing her current life on a YouTube channel. Lee, who joined Baby V.O.X in 1998, had previously misrepresented her age, claiming to be born in 1978 instead of her actual birth year of 1968. This deception was uncovered in 1999, leading to her departure from the group and retirement from the entertainment industry.
In her recent comment, Lee revealed, "I am now living under a new name. Recently, I've been receiving calls from broadcasting companies, and they even visited me at the restaurant where I work, so I’ve been taking a break from work." She reflected on her past, stating, "I take full responsibility for what happened. I never lived a day comfortably, deceiving my fan club and the public. After 20 years, I can finally talk about it, but I had to keep it to myself for so long. Seeing my Baby V.O.X friends perform beautifully on stage brought back memories."
Lee explained that her age misrepresentation stemmed from her preparation to debut in a girl group similar to the male group, Roo'ra. She suffered a serious injury while dancing, complicating her situation. "The CEO told me to trust him and placed me among much younger members. I felt like an aunt among kids," she recalled, reflecting on her departure from the group.
She also shared fond memories of her time with the other members, saying, "I had an injury that caused inflammation in my feet whenever I danced, but Lee Ji Eun took care of me and helped me. She cried when I left, asking how she would manage without me, and we promised to stay in touch, but I couldn't keep that promise due to my conscience. Still, I’m proud to see my younger sisters shine on stage again."
Meanwhile, Baby V.O.X, consisting of members Kim Ji Eun, Lee Hee Jin, Shim Eun Jin, Kan Mi Yeon, and Yoon Eun Hye, made headlines recently for their full group performance at the KBS Gayo Daechukje on December 20.
