Folk Singer Seo Yoo-seok Elected as New Chairman of Mapo Cultural Foundation

Renowned folk singer Seo Yoo-seok (서유석), known for his hits like '가는 세월' (Passing Time) and '홀로 아리랑' (Alone Arirang), has been appointed as the 8th chairman of the Mapo Cultural Foundation. His term will last for two years, from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2027. On June 11, Seo expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Mapo is a place where the roots of art run deep and youthful creative energy thrives. I aim to be a strong support for nurturing the cultural diversity of the region and the potential of artists."
Seo began his career as a folk-pop singer in 1968 at an underground live club in Seoul. He gained popularity with numerous hits, including '사모하는 마음' (Longing Heart), '타박내' (Tears), and '아름다운 사람' (Beautiful Person). He continued to be active in the music scene, releasing his first new song in 20 years, '그들이 왜 울어야 하나' (Why), last year.
Additionally, the Mapo Cultural Foundation announced that Ko Young-geun (고영근), former head of the Audit Office at the Seoul Arts Center, has started his two-year term as the 7th CEO of the foundation as of June 1. Ko has built his expertise through various key positions at the Seoul Arts Center, including Director of Management Support and Director of Business Development since 2003.
