First Lady Kim Hye-kyung Meets Korean Community in Calgary During G7 Summit

On June 17, 2025, during the G7 Summit in Canada, President Lee Jae-myung attended official events in Canmore, Alberta, while First Lady Kim Hye-kyung engaged with the Korean community in Calgary. At a gathering held at the Korean Community Center, over 30 attendees welcomed her with Korean flags, expressing their excitement with phrases like 'Welcome!' and 'We've been waiting for you!' Some even congratulated her on her son Dong-ho's recent marriage on June 14. Kim expressed her gratitude, saying, 'Thank you so much for coming despite your busy schedules.' After receiving bouquets from the community members, she took commemorative photos and shared selfies with them.
Choi Jin-young, president of the Calgary Korean Association, remarked, 'The Calgary Korean Community Center may be modest, but it is a precious space filled with the wisdom, blood, sweat, and tears of our immigrant predecessors. Just having the First Lady here brings us great comfort and support.'
Kim Hye-kyung acknowledged the deep longing for their homeland felt by the expatriates, stating, 'I can feel that your desire for our country is much more intense than ours, even while living far away. I know there have been many challenges and worries about our homeland, and I hope today can be a time for open discussions about your hopes for our country and what you wish for the new president.'
