Film 'Harbin' Expected to Surpass 3 Million Viewers This Week

The film '하얼빈' (Harbin) is projected to comfortably exceed 3 million viewers this week. According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticket sales system, on December 31, 2024, 'Harbin' attracted 212,408 viewers across 1,526 screens, bringing its total audience count to 2,755,267 and securing the top spot at the box office.

The newly released film 'Bogotá: The Land of Last Chances' opened with 97,296 viewers, accumulating a total of 100,948 viewers to claim the second position, while 'Firefighters' drew in 55,181 viewers, reaching a cumulative total of 3,317,731 and ranking third. 'Civil War: The Age of Division' debuted in fourth place with an additional 22,040 viewers, and 'Mufasa: The Lion King' added 21,669 viewers, totaling 656,685 to secure fifth place.

'Harbin' is considered one of the most anticipated films of the year-end, produced by Hive Media Corp, the same company behind the blockbuster 'Seoul's Spring,' which attracted over 10 million viewers last year. Directed by Woo Min-ho, who has collaborated with Hive Media Corp on all their films since 'The Insider,' this project marks another significant partnership.

Opening on Christmas Eve, 'Harbin' recorded an impressive opening score of 380,000 viewers, surpassing the opening figures of the mega-hit 'Avatar 2.' Within just two days of the Christmas holiday, it crossed the 1.25 million mark and surpassed 2 million viewers by its fifth day in theaters. This rapid success is faster than that of 'Seoul's Spring,' which reached 10 million in six days, and matches the pace of 'Avatar: The Way of Water,' drawing even more attention.

With over 2.75 million viewers already, 'Harbin' is expected to surpass 3 million by tomorrow (January 2) at the latest, and there are high hopes for it to reach 4 million by the end of this week.

Set in 1909, 'Harbin' (directed by Woo Min-ho, distributed by CJ ENM, produced by Hive Media Corp) depicts the intense pursuit and suspicion between those heading to Harbin for a singular purpose and those chasing them, focusing on the assassination of Ito Hirobumi by General Ahn Jung-geun (played by Hyun Bin) and independence activists during the Japanese colonial period.
