Father Sentenced to Four Years for Sexual Assault of His Daughter

A man in his 40s has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexually assaulting his daughter, following both the initial trial and the appeal process. The Seoul High Court's Chuncheon branch upheld the original sentence, rejecting the defendant's claims that he admitted guilt to protect his daughter from false accusations.
The accused, identified as A, was found guilty of multiple offenses against his underage daughter, B, occurring in 2015, 2018, and 2020. The first trial court considered the serious social implications of A's actions and sentenced him to four years in prison, leading to his immediate detention.
During the appeal, A argued that B had exaggerated her statements and falsely added incidents from 2015 out of fear of being accused of making false claims. However, B's testimony remained consistent throughout the investigation, and the appellate court found her demeanor during questioning to be natural and credible.
The appellate court noted that B suffered significant psychological trauma from the assaults, which occurred in what should have been a safe home environment. The court emphasized that rather than showing remorse, A attempted to undermine B's credibility in a bid to reduce his sentence, which was taken into account during sentencing.
