Father Sentenced to 20 Years for Killing 11-Month-Old Daughter

In a tragic case, a father has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the death of his 11-month-old daughter. During a hearing at the Daejeon District Court, the prosecution requested the lengthy sentence for the defendant, referred to as A, who faces charges of murder and other offenses. The prosecution emphasized the horrific nature of the crime, stating that the defendant's violent actions led to this devastating incident and that a severe punishment is necessary to prevent future occurrences.
The incident occurred in early September of last year in Seocheon, South Chungcheong Province, where A reportedly struck his daughter in the abdomen and chest and threw her to the ground, resulting in her death. Following the incident, he concealed her body in a styrofoam box located in a utility room.
The crime came to light after a local daycare center director reported the child's absence. In February, police discovered the deceased infant's body while investigating A's residence.
While A admitted to the charges, his defense highlighted that he has an intellectual disability and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, pleading for leniency from the court. In his final statement, A expressed remorse, stating, "I have reflected deeply on my actions while serving my sentence."
Additionally, the prosecution has sought a three-year prison sentence with a five-year probation for the child's mother, who was also charged with concealing the body.
