Family of Late MBC Weathercaster Oh Yoo-anna Files Lawsuit Over Workplace Bullying Allegations

The family of the late MBC weathercaster Oh Yoo-anna has filed a civil lawsuit against a colleague, following allegations of workplace bullying she faced during her career. According to KBS, the lawsuit was initiated in December 2024 against an employee who worked alongside Oh. Messages sent by Oh to her colleague reportedly included sentiments of despair, questioning whether she was at fault for discussing the viability of the weather team. In an interview, her family expressed a desire to prevent such suffering from recurring, emphasizing the need for accountability from both the perpetrator and the company. Oh's sudden passing in September 2024 was only publicly disclosed in December. While the exact cause of her death remains unclear, it was reported that a lengthy letter was found on her unlocked phone, detailing her experiences of bullying from two specific weathercasters. Oh joined MBC as a freelance weathercaster in May 2021 and began experiencing harassment from senior colleagues in March 2022. MBC stated that if Oh had formally reported her grievances, they would have conducted an investigation, but they currently do not possess the newly discovered letter. They are prepared to investigate the matter promptly if the family requests it.
