Entertainment Venue Manager Released After Extortion Case Involving Late Actor Lee Seon-kyun

A manager from an entertainment venue, identified as A (31), has been released from Incheon Detention Center following a court decision on June 26. He was charged with extorting over 300 million won from the late actor Lee Seon-kyun by claiming his phone had been hacked and he needed money to silence the threats. The Incheon District Court granted bail, anticipating that A's detention period would expire before his appeal hearing scheduled for July 16. A's detention had been extended three times since his initial sentencing on December 31, 2022, until May 8, 2023. The hacker who threatened A was revealed to be B (30), a former actor and A's acquaintance living in the same apartment complex. Both A and B received prison sentences of 3 years and 6 months, and 4 years and 2 months, respectively, after their first trial, and they are currently appealing the verdicts.
