Entertainment Venue Manager Released After Extorting 300 Million Won from Late Actor Lee Seon-kyun

A manager from an entertainment venue, identified as A (31), has been released from Incheon Detention Center following a court decision to grant bail. This decision was made on June 26 by the Incheon District Court's Criminal Appeals Division, presided over by Judge Choi Seong-bae. A was charged with extortion, having allegedly coerced the late actor Lee Seon-kyun into paying 300 million won by claiming that his phone had been hacked and he needed money to silence the threats. The court determined that A's detention period was set to expire before the scheduled appeal verdict on July 16. A's detention had been extended three times since the initial ruling in December of last year, with the last extension expiring on June 30. The hacker who threatened A was revealed to be B (30), a former actor and A's acquaintance living in the same apartment complex. Both A and B received prison sentences of 3 years and 6 months and 4 years and 2 months, respectively, during their first trial in December, and they are currently appealing the verdicts. Unlike A, B remains in custody as his detention period has not yet expired.
