Elderly Man Arrested for Attempted Abduction of Elementary School Girl in Namyangju

An elderly man in his 70s has been arrested in Namyangju, South Korea, for attempting to abduct a young girl. On July 1, the Namyangju Southern Police announced that the suspect, referred to as A, has been charged with attempted abduction of a minor and sexual assault against a child under 13.
The incident occurred on the morning of May 22, when A allegedly tried to lure a third-grade girl, identified as B, into his vehicle while she was on her way to school. Fortunately, B's parents, who were watching from a distance, intervened, preventing the abduction from being successful.
Although A fled the scene, he was apprehended six days later. Police investigations revealed that A had approached B prior to the incident, making similar attempts and even engaging in physical contact. During questioning, A denied the allegations, claiming he only intended to give B a ride to school. However, authorities believe he intended to take her to his nearby farm shed.
B's parents expressed their concerns in a media interview, fearing that A might receive a lighter sentence due to his age and being a first-time offender. They shared that their daughter has been deeply affected by the incident, often screaming in distress and struggling to sleep due to anxiety.
