Dreamcatcher Unit 'You Are You' Returns with First Mini Album

After an eight-year journey, Dreamcatcher members JiU, SuA, and YooHyeon have reunited as a unit called You Are You, expressing that their first album is the most authentic representation of themselves. On May 28, the trio held a showcase for their debut mini-album, 'Playlist #You Are You,' at Ilji Art Hall in Gangnam, Seoul.

The album conveys a message of cherishing joyful moments in everyday life. It features two double title tracks: '2 Months,' which expresses a desire for a romantic partner to match their pace, and 'Attitude,' which reflects a wish to leave behind past selves and embrace a confident transformation.

During the event, JiU explained the team name, stating, "We took one letter from each of our names—JiU, SuA, and YooHyeon. The phrase 'You Are You' also carries a free-spirited meaning of being true to oneself."

SuA shared her excitement about starting anew with the two members, saying, "It feels both thrilling and unfamiliar, but we had a lot of fun preparing for this."

YooHyeon added, "This album includes various genres and stories, featuring our double title tracks, '2 Months' and 'Attitude.'"

When asked to describe the album in one word, JiU chose "mature," while SuA humorously responded with "alcohol," explaining, "Music is essential when enjoying drinks. Since this album is a 'playlist,' I believe listening to it while drinking will create a happy atmosphere."

Notably, the album will also feature a collaboration with a beer brand. SuA mentioned, "We are collaborating on a beer product. It’s a simple, healing drink. I think it would be wonderful to enjoy our music while sipping on beer with our faces on the label. It might sound odd to say 'drink a lot,' but if you have the time, I hope you can enjoy it with our music."

The members discussed their focus while preparing the album. JiU expressed her desire to showcase a more seasoned side of themselves after years in the industry, combining their experiences from MINX and Dreamcatcher. She also wanted to reflect their diverse personal styles.

YooHyeon noted, "While we have shown conceptual sides in the past, this album is about being true to ourselves. It also incorporates elements of city pop, which I love."

After performing, JiU expressed relief, saying, "I feel so relieved. I wanted to be on stage sooner, but time has flown by. We really worked hard."

Reflecting on their third debut, SuA remarked, "I never expected to have a third debut in my life. Thanks to MINX, we became five members, then met two more members in Dreamcatcher, and now we are You Are You. This time is incredibly precious, and I think of our fans, Somnias, while speaking. Everything revolves around them. We have our ambitions and musical dreams, but I believe we want to meet Somnias the most."

JiU added, "When people think of Dreamcatcher, they often associate us with rock music. However, since You Are You is a unit that has emerged after eight years, we aim to explore a more diverse range of genres rather than sticking to a single style. We hope you look forward to our future music."

SuA shared the challenges they faced with the new style, saying, "It wasn’t easy for the three of us. After doing rock music for eight years, our style has changed. The music style of You Are You is more conversational and whisper-like, which has been quite challenging. We need to balance intensity in our performances, and since we are used to belting out notes, it has been a bit frustrating. But we are adapting."

Regarding the reactions from other Dreamcatcher members, YooHyeon said, "When we first met, they immediately said, 'You look so hot.' That was their first reaction, and they have been incredibly supportive. They even sent a coffee truck to our music video shoot, which was so sweet of them."

When asked what kind of descriptors they would like to be associated with You Are You, JiU humorously mentioned, "I thought a lot about this. I even asked our fans, and the term 'trend idol' came up. It reflects our desire to be trendy and is also an abbreviation for 'third debut.'"

The mini-album consists of four tracks, including the double title songs '2 Months' and 'Attitude.' The former expresses a longing for a partner to match their pace, while the latter conveys a desire to confidently move forward, leaving the past behind. Additionally, the album features 'Sacrifice,' which captures the feeling of infinite sacrifice for a lover while harboring a sense of guilt, and 'Good Luck,' which sends encouragement to a past love. This diverse storytelling is set to enrich listeners' playlists with an evolved musical world.
