Dr. Oh Eun-young Diagnoses Asperger's Syndrome in Young Boy on 'My Little Baby'

In the latest episode of Channel A's 'My Little Baby' (요즘 육아 금쪽같은 내새끼), aired on June 27, 2025, Dr. Oh Eun-young diagnosed a first-grade boy named Geumjok with Asperger's Syndrome. The episode showcased Geumjok's struggles with anger management, as he often exploded in frustration and displayed stubborn behavior, even resorting to threats to get his way with his parents.
Geumjok's parents expressed concern over his limited range of facial expressions and difficulty maintaining eye contact. Dr. Oh described Geumjok's case as particularly challenging, suggesting that he is close to being diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. She emphasized the importance of social skills training, stating, "Social skills need to be learned like studying. Even if he learns, he may not fully understand, but there are cases where learning leads to understanding."
Geumjok's mother shared her feelings of helplessness but also relief at finally having a diagnosis, acknowledging the long journey ahead. During the episode, Geumjok revealed his inner turmoil, saying, "I find it hard to hold back. When I'm angry, I can't control myself," which moved the audience. He also expressed feelings of isolation, stating, "My friends don’t want to play with me. I don’t know how to play."
Hearing their son's struggles brought tears to his parents' eyes. Geumjok mentioned, "I can’t communicate well with my mom," highlighting the complexity of their relationship, yet he also stated, "My mom is my best friend."
Dr. Oh advised that understanding Geumjok's Asperger's Syndrome requires a gradual approach to teaching him social skills. Following her guidance, Geumjok's parents began implementing social training, showing signs of improvement. His mother remarked, "I think I can help him find the right direction," while Geumjok expressed determination, saying, "It’s difficult, but with my mom and dad’s help, I will try my best."
