Disney's Live-Action Snow White Premieres Amid Controversy

The live-action adaptation of Disney's 'Snow White' (감독 마크 웹) has sparked intense reactions even before its release, leading to the cancellation of its UK premiere event. On March 5, the Daily Mail reported that the red carpet event in London was unexpectedly called off despite the film's upcoming release this month. Instead of a large-scale event, a tightly controlled media schedule will allow only a select few journalists to attend. The premiere in the United States will proceed as planned.
An insider revealed, "Disney anticipated backlash regarding 'Snow White' and opted to scale down the media event. This is quite an unusual move," adding that the decision also aims to limit press inquiries directed at lead actress Rachel Zegler.
'Snow White' is a live-action retelling of Disney's first princess and beloved animated classic. Rachel Zegler, who won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, plays the titular role. The casting of Zegler, who is of Latin descent, has sparked debate given the character's original portrayal.
Additionally, Zegler's past criticisms of the original film, describing it as "outdated" and "a strange movie," have resurfaced, fueling further controversy. The film's first trailer, released in December, received over a million dislikes, reflecting the ongoing backlash.
'Snow White' is set to hit theaters on March 19.
