Director Min Jin-ki Returns with New Drama 'Salon de Holmes'

Director Min Jin-ki, known for his comedic and relatable storytelling in the 'Shinbyeong' series, is back with a new slice-of-life woman-centric drama titled 'Salon de Holmes'. The show is set to premiere on ENA on June 16, 2025, and features a star-studded cast including Lee Si-young (이시영), Jung Young-joo (정영주), Kim Da-som (김다솜), and Nam Gi-ae (남기애).

The production press conference took place at the Stanford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, where the cast and director shared insights about the upcoming series. 'Salon de Holmes' is a comedic action drama set in the Kwangseonju Apartment, where a diverse group of women, including a former detective, an insurance mogul, a part-time job expert, and a supermarket owner, come together to solve various incidents within their apartment complex.

Director Min explained, "Approximately 11.2 million households in South Korea live in apartments. The concept of housewives becoming detectives to tackle everyday villains resonates well and is quite appealing."

Lee Si-young plays the curious housewife Bong Mi-ri, who successfully moves into her new apartment. She expressed her excitement about taking on a comedic role after being typecast in more serious characters like detectives. "I’m grateful to return with a bright and fun drama after a long time," she said, adding that while she shares some positive traits with her character, she is more reserved in real life.

Jung Young-joo portrays Choi Kyung-ja, a former violent crimes detective who takes on local villains. She admitted feeling the pressure of being dubbed the 'female Ma Dong-seok' but emphasized that it was a role she had always wanted. "I want to showcase powerful and exhilarating action, and I hope to inspire other female actors to take on action roles," she stated. Lee Si-young humorously acknowledged her admiration for Jung's title, noting her impressive performance during filming.

Kim Da-som plays Park So-hee, a part-time job expert juggling multiple jobs to support her son as a young single mother. She shared that the character's background deeply resonated with her and expressed her eagerness to expand her acting range through intense scenes and emotional performances.

Nam Gi-ae appears as Jeon Ji-hyun, the owner of the apartment's supermarket. She described her character as a proactive eldest sister who plays a crucial role in keeping the small supermarket afloat. She praised the chemistry among the cast and highlighted Lee Si-young's ability to maintain a positive atmosphere on set.

Director Min noted that 'Salon de Holmes' shares a similar structure to the 'Shinbyeong' series, focusing on a specific setting with a variety of characters. He aims for the drama to blend dramatic, suspenseful, thriller, and comedic elements, having carefully cast both supporting and minor roles. He hopes this drama will contribute to the growth of the woman-centric genre in Korean television, encouraging more stories led by female protagonists.

'Salon de Holmes' is set to air at 10 PM on ENA.
