Director Lee Seon-jung Reflects on Late Actress Kim Sae-ron at 'Guitar Man' Press Conference

On May 21, a press conference and media screening for the late Kim Sae-ron's final film, 'Guitar Man,' took place at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul.
'Guitar Man' is a musical film that tells the story of a talented guitarist who seeks hope through music amidst the struggles of life. The protagonist, Gi-cheol (played by Lee Seon-jung), is a gifted guitarist living a transient life due to financial difficulties. After being introduced by a friend, he joins the live club band 'Volcano' as their guitarist, where he bonds with the band members, including keyboardist Yu-jin (played by Kim Sae-ron), in their quest for hope.
The film has garnered significant attention, especially due to the tragic circumstances surrounding Kim Sae-ron's passing. Director Lee Seon-jung, who also plays the lead role of Gi-cheol, shared his thoughts during the event.
He stated, "When I first cast Kim Sae-ron and we had our initial meeting, I was aware of the difficult situation she was in. However, I am determined to release the film by the end of May next year. I hope that during this time, she can take a moment to reflect and then rise again to soar in her career. I want to keep that promise."
Lee continued, "As we progressed with the film, there were some aspects that felt lacking. The version set to release on the 30th will be refined further. Throughout the editing process, I had to see Sae-ron's face constantly, which was incredibly challenging. I can't forget her. I had to look at her every day in the editing room, and it even haunted my dreams."
He also expressed his sorrow, saying, "The second hardest part is that she should have been here with me today. It feels embarrassing and sad to be here alone. I found myself crying at the end of the film, and no matter how many times I edited it, her story remains heartbreaking."
