Director Lee Jung-seob Speaks Out on 'Real' Controversy

Lee Jung-seob, who was initially set to direct the film 'Real', has finally addressed the controversy surrounding the film's production. On March 28, he tweeted about the director change that occurred in 2017, stating, "I noticed someone mentioned my tweet about the director change for 'Real', and it seems that the actor involved is being highlighted again. I can now say confidently that I bear 0% of the blame for how the film turned out. Even if it wasn't 'Real', if a director is replaced mid-production by a producer who hasn't even directed before, the fault lies entirely with the production company." He expressed gratitude for the support he received during a painful period.
The film has recently resurfaced in discussions due to controversies surrounding Sulli's nude scenes and intimate moments, prompting Lee's candid remarks. He also commented on the ongoing scandal involving actor Kim Soo-hyun and the late Kim Sae-ron, saying, "One should first apologize to the deceased. Nothing has changed; it has only evolved into something more malicious."
Following the release of a statement that Kim Sae-ron was unable to deliver during her lifetime, Lee added, "It pains me deeply; it is truly heartbreaking."
Released in June 2017, 'Real' tells the story of two men on the brink of the largest casino opening in Asia. The film features Kim Soo-hyun, Sulli, Lee Sung-min, Sung Dong-il, and Jo Woo-jin. Lee Jung-seob directed most of the filming before the production company, led by Lee Sa-rang, who is also Kim Soo-hyun's cousin, took over the direction unexpectedly. The production company acknowledged the director change, citing differences in the film's direction, and 'Real' was met with harsh criticism and poor box office performance.
The renewed interest in 'Real' comes after Sulli's brother, A, demanded a statement from Lee Sa-rang regarding the film's controversial scenes. A mentioned, "We have spent the last six years in deep sorrow and tears, but we are grateful for the support we have received. I cannot ignore the death of Kim Sae-ron as if it doesn't concern me. I extend my deepest condolences to her family."
A specifically called for clarification on the intimate scenes between Sulli and Kim Soo-hyun, stating that they were not detailed in the original script. He also questioned why a body double was not used for Sulli's nude scenes, despite claims that the body double was unavailable on the day of filming, as witnesses at the funeral indicated otherwise. A expressed a desire for Kim Soo-hyun and Lee Sa-rang to address these issues.
Additionally, A hinted at a possible confrontation with Kim Soo-hyun, stating, "I have a lot to say, but I can't. Hold on tight; you will fall from a high place." He later posted, "My life, your life, everyone's life is 'Real'." On the morning of March 28, he shared a poignant message, reflecting on the six years since his sister's passing and the pain that continues to linger.
