Director Kwak Kyung-taek Discusses Park Hyo-shin's New OST for 'Firefighter'

Director Kwak Kyung-taek shared insights on the inclusion of Park Hyo-shin's new song 'HERO' as the official soundtrack for his upcoming film 'Firefighter' during a press screening held on November 25 at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul. The event featured the director alongside cast members Joo Won, Yoo Jae-myung, Lee Yoo-young, Kim Min-jae, Oh Dae-hwan, and Jang Young-nam, who participated in a press conference following the screening.

'Firefighter' portrays the harrowing experiences of firefighters during the tragic 2001 Hongje-dong fire disaster, focusing on their relentless efforts to extinguish the flames and rescue victims despite challenging conditions.

When asked about the decision to feature Park Hyo-shin's 'HERO' in the film, Kwak explained, "The representative from the investment and distribution company reached out to me, asking if I was familiar with Park Hyo-shin and suggested using one of his songs as an insert for 'Firefighter.'" He continued, "I listened to the track, which at the time didn’t have lyrics, just some humming. However, the melody conveyed a sense of comfort. I felt that with the right lyrics, it could serve as a powerful message of solace, which is something I don’t often do with insert songs. I decided to go ahead with it, and fortunately, the final product turned out beautifully, which made me personally very happy."

'Firefighter' is set to hit theaters on December 4.
