Director Choi Min-hyuk's '8 PM and a Cat' Invited to Venice Film Festival's Immersive Section

Choi Min-hyuk's film '8 PM and a Cat' has been officially invited to compete in the Immersive section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, set to take place next month. The festival recognizes high-quality works that integrate extended reality (XR) technology into cinematic aesthetics, awarding them separately in the Immersive section.

Currently studying at the Korea National University of Arts, Choi has directed several VR (virtual reality) films, starting with 'Night Window' (밤창문) in 2016, followed by 'Space Girl' (공간소녀) in 2017, and 'Nine VR: Come Meet Me' (나인VR: 날 만나러 와요) in 2019. His latest work is the interactive VR film 'Girl Lamp Radio' (소녀 램프 라디오) released in 2023, featuring Sunye, a former member of the Wonder Girls, as an idol struggling with online harassment.

In addition to Choi's film, 30 other works have been invited to compete in the Immersive section this year, including 'Asteroid' by Doug Liman, director of 'The Bourne Identity.' When including non-competitive entries, a total of 69 films will be showcased in the Immersive section of the festival.
