Director and Cast Remember Late Actor Song Jae-rim at 'Crash' Press Conference

On January 6, 2025, a press conference for the film 'Crash' (폭락), directed by Hyun Hae-ri, took place at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul. The event was attended by director Hyun Hae-ri and actors Ahn Woo-yeon, Min Sung-wook, So Hee-jung, and Cha Jung-won, who shared their memories of the late actor Song Jae-rim, who starred in the film.
'Crash' is a crime drama inspired by the real-life collapse of the Luna coin, which caused a staggering 50 trillion won loss globally, affecting around 280,000 victims in South Korea alone. The film chronicles the journey of a young entrepreneur who exploits youth entrepreneurship support funds and engages in fraudulent bankruptcies from 2009 to 2023, ultimately succumbing to the temptations of quick wealth through stocks and cryptocurrencies.
In the film, Song Jae-rim portrays Yang Do-hyun, a self-proclaimed genius businessman who develops a cryptocurrency called MOMMY, becoming ensnared in the allure of money. Tragically, Song passed away in November 2022 after completing filming, making 'Crash' his final work.
During the press conference, Ahn Woo-yeon, who had the most scenes with Song, recalled their first meeting on the variety show 'Radio Star' five years prior, noting that they had only exchanged pleasantries. However, while working together on 'Crash', they developed a close bond. Ahn described Song as a pure-hearted person who was considerate and playful, sharing fond memories of their time on set.
Director Hyun Hae-ri became emotional when discussing Song, recalling how he was impressed by Song's knowledge of cryptocurrencies during auditions. He expressed his admiration for Song's warm personality, contrasting with the cold image some may have had of him.
Other cast members also shared their sentiments. Min Sung-wook reflected on how Song, despite appearing aloof, was deeply committed to his craft and often engaged in meaningful discussions about acting. So Hee-jung reminisced about their fun moments on set, including a scene where Song humorously taught her how to handle fish.
Hyun Hae-ri also revealed that he was a victim of the Luna coin incident, emphasizing the film's serious themes while striving for a balanced portrayal of the events. He noted the confusion and excitement surrounding cryptocurrency investments during that time, which ultimately led to significant losses for many.
'Crash' is set to be released on January 15, 2025, and aims to shed light on the darker side of the startup culture and the cryptocurrency craze that captivated many young people.
