Demonstrations Planned Following Arrest Warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol

On January 3, 2025, police were deployed near the presidential residence in Yongsan, Seoul, as the High-ranking Officials Crime Investigation Office (공수처) attempted to execute an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol. In response, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (민주노총) issued directives for an overnight protest over the weekend.

On January 2, the union provided final instructions for a '1-night, 2-day intensive overnight struggle' aimed at its expanded leadership. The plan includes a rally at 3 PM on January 3 near the Han-gangjin Station on Subway Line 6, followed by a march to the presidential residence.

Later that evening, participants from 민노총, the Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice (참여연대), and the Korean Peasants League (전국농민회총연맹) will join a rally demanding the immediate resignation of President Yoon and calling for significant social reforms.

On Saturday, January 4, the group will participate in a protest organized by the emergency action committee from 10 AM to 5:30 PM, followed by another rally led by 민노총 at 7 PM.

Given the expected cold weather, the union advised participants to bring sleeping bags, mats, hand warmers, and earmuffs. They also instructed members to refrain from responding individually to any actions from conservative groups that may gather nearby.

Meanwhile, on the morning of January 3, investigators from the 공수처 and police engaged in a standoff with personnel from the presidential security service and military units for about an hour before arriving at the residence around 10 AM.
