David Corenswet Cast as New Superman in Upcoming Film

A new Superman has emerged following Henry Cavill, with actor David Corenswet stepping into the iconic role in the upcoming film directed by James Gunn. The live conference for 'Superman' took place on July 3 at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul, featuring appearances from Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and director James Gunn.

Set to release on July 9, 'Superman' is a massive superhero action blockbuster that showcases the strongest being on Earth battling formidable foes intent on destruction. This film marks Gunn's first directorial project since taking the helm of DC Studios, following his work on 'The Suicide Squad' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.

Gunn expressed his excitement about directing 'Superman', stating, "There are complex and simple reasons for taking on this project. Superman is essentially the origin of superheroes worldwide. From the moment I began to conceptualize this character, I believed he would be a great hero. I have a deep affection for Superman."

He elaborated on his directorial focus, explaining, "In comic books, Superman is often depicted alongside various humans, but I wanted to portray him as a superhuman. I aimed to capture the essence of fantastical characters from other worlds and infuse that magic into the film. Additionally, I wanted to explore who Superman is as a person—what he would look like if he existed, his emotional depth, and his relationships, particularly with his love interest."

David Corenswet, now the new Superman, shared his thoughts on the role, saying, "It’s an incredible opportunity to take on a character that has been portrayed by so many talented actors. I feel supported by their legacy. Playing Superman felt like an exploration for me. It’s a character beloved by all ages, and I’m thrilled to convey James Gunn's vision to the audience."

Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, Superman's colleague and love interest. She described her character as "intelligent, ambitious, and courageous," and noted that the film explores various aspects of their relationship. "I’m grateful to the director and my fellow actors for their support," she added.

Nicholas Hoult, who portrays Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor, revealed that he initially auditioned for the role of Superman but ended up with Luthor. He remarked, "In a way, the jealousy towards Superman drives this character, showcasing his human side. Thanks to James Gunn and David Corenswet, I believe the character has been well represented. Our team has great chemistry."

The 'Superman' team urged audiences to look forward to the film. Gunn emphasized, "While there are many films out there, I wanted to create a new universe with 'Superman'. The visual aspects, especially in CG, will be much better on the big screen." Corenswet added, "Korea has a vibrant culture of enjoying and appreciating films. I hope to bring our universe's films to Korea in the future."
