Daesung Reflects on Park Hyun-bin's Iconic Performance

On December 17, during the fourth episode of MBN's entertainment show 'Current King of Masked Singers 2' (현역가왕2), singer Daesung (대성) shared his thoughts on witnessing Park Hyun-bin's (박현빈) performance of 'Gondre Mandre' (곤드레만드레). The episode featured a one-on-one death match called 'Field Selection Battle' among the surviving contestants from the self-evaluation round.

In a humorous moment, contestant Park Jun-young (박준영) confidently called out Kim Kyung-min (김경민) but mistakenly referred to him as Kim Kyung-jin (김경진), eliciting laughter from the audience. Park Jun-young then revealed his song choice, which was the beloved track 'Gondre Mandre' by master Park Hyun-bin.

Park Hyun-bin gained immense popularity through this song, making it a challenging choice for any performer to cover. Acknowledging this, he expressed his concerns, stating, "I don't think my song is suitable. I believe there are other songs I could perform better." Park Jun-young, however, noted that whenever he sang in Japan, requests for 'Gondre Mandre' were always made, highlighting its popularity among Koreans.

Daesung reminisced about having seen Park Hyun-bin perform 'Gondre Mandre' live, saying, "In a good way, I thought he was out of his mind. The members of Big Bang would joke that it seemed like he was drunk. But today, Park Jun-young was very gentle. It looked like he was struggling to keep up with the energy of the song."

Park Hyun-bin later critiqued the choice of 'Gondre Mandre' for the competition, suggesting it might have been a risky decision. Ultimately, the results showed a decisive victory for Kim Kyung-min, with a score of 84 to 416.
