Creators Unite to Form 'Drama Creators Alliance' Amid Industry Crisis

On May 7, 2025, creators from the South Korean drama industry established the 'Drama Creators Alliance' in response to rising production costs and a reduction in TV channel drama programming. This collective voice emerged as domestic producers and various stakeholders in drama creation face increasing competition from OTT platforms like Netflix.
The founding ceremony took place at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, where Lee Eun-kyu, the chairperson of the Drama Creators Alliance and former president of the Korean Drama PD Association, delivered opening remarks. Other notable attendees included Jeong Rak-hyeon, vice president of the Korean Artificial Intelligence Promotion Association, writers Yoo So-won and Choi Soon-sik, as well as actors Kim Young-im and Lee Jeong-hoon.
The alliance advocates for several key changes, including adjustments to excessive star salaries, the incorporation of AI technology in drama production, and the mandatory use of written contracts between production companies and staff.
