Controversy Arises Over Explicit Scenes in tvN's 'Wongyeong'

The drama 'Wongyeong', currently airing on tvN and Tving, is facing scrutiny due to its explicit scenes. Allegations have emerged that these scenes were broadcast using CGI (computer-generated imagery) and body doubles without proper consent from the actors involved. In response, Studio Dragon, the production company, clarified that there was indeed an agreement with the actors regarding these scenes.

A representative from Studio Dragon stated on January 16, 'From the beginning, we made it clear that the Tving version would be rated 'Adults Only'. The presence of explicit scenes was disclosed during the casting process. The level of exposure was discussed individually with each actor based on their characters and the nature of the scenes, and consultations were held with the actors' agencies at each stage of production.' This statement contradicts the claims made by the actors' agencies that the explicit scenes were created without consent.

The first two episodes of 'Wongyeong' featured bold exposure from lead actors Cha Joo-young and Lee Yi-dam, sparking controversy. While tvN edited out the explicit content to fit a 15+ rating, Tving retained the graphic scenes for its 19+ rating, leading to significant discussion among viewers.

Following the airing of these scenes, some viewers questioned their necessity, arguing that the show could be understood without them. Reports suggest that during filming, the actors wore clothing, and the explicit visuals were later added using CGI with a body double. The actors' agencies reportedly requested edits, but the production team did not comply.

Director Kim Sang-ho of 'Wongyeong' explained on January 16 that the script did not explicitly describe the exposure scenes. He clarified that the decision to include them was influenced more by the channel's requirements than by directorial intent. Tving has stated that they are currently reviewing the situation but has not provided a definitive response.
