Controversy Arises After Korean Taxi Driver Makes Inappropriate Remarks to Thai Tourist

A recent incident involving a Korean taxi driver has sparked outrage after he made inappropriate comments to a Thai female tourist. The 30-year-old woman shared her negative experience on TikTok on June 19, warning others to be cautious when taking taxis in Korea.

The tourist, referred to as A, had called a taxi using an app to travel from Seoul to catch a KTX train to Busan. During the ride, the driver utilized a voice translation app to communicate with her, asking personal questions such as whether she had a boyfriend and why she wasn't married yet. He even offered to help her find a job, suggesting that cleaning rooms would be an easy task.

When A mentioned she was going to Busan for leisure, the driver made a shocking remark, suggesting, "If you don't have money for the taxi, you can pay with your body." This blatant sexual harassment was met with laughter from the driver when it was translated into Thai.

A's friend, who posted the video, included a warning stating, "Korea is a safe country with many good people, but don’t assume it’s 100% safe." She recounted that the most frightening moment was when the driver stopped the car and continued to engage her in conversation, even asking for her phone number and when she would return to Korea.

The video has since gone viral on Thai social media, prompting reactions from viewers who urged A to report the driver, expressing concerns about traveling alone in Korea. Korean netizens also expressed their dismay, with comments like, "This is an embarrassment for the country. I apologize on behalf of the nation," and "This should be reported to the police. Good drivers are suffering because of people like this."
