Concerns Arise Over Parenting Dynamics in 'Yoosum Yuga - Precious My Child'

In the latest episode of Channel A's 'Yoosum Yuga - Precious My Child' (요즘 육아 - 금쪽같은 내 새끼), Dr. Oh Eun-young expressed her concerns regarding a child named Geumjok, who is attempting to assert dominance within his family. The episode aired on December 20, 2024, and featured a couple struggling with their fourth-grade son, who has been exhibiting violent behavior due to his inability to manage anger.

The couple returned to the show, expressing their frustration and uncertainty about their parenting approach. During the episode, Geumjok insisted on using his phone for an hour and a half, but his mother encouraged him to complete his academy session first. Despite her calm explanations, Geumjok stubbornly refused, repeatedly saying, 'No, I won’t.'

In response to his mother's firmness, Geumjok declared he would leave the house and walked out defiantly. His mother chased after him, attempting to engage in conversation, but Geumjok rejected her attempts. Eventually, a physical struggle ensued as his mother tried to hold him back, leading Geumjok to shout, 'Let go! I said I’m leaving!' After promising to go to the academy, his mother released him, but Geumjok retaliated by throwing his clothes and pushing her away.

Dr. Oh noted the emotional turmoil parents experience in such situations, emphasizing that Geumjok's use of the word 'no' indicates a desire for control, suggesting he believes he must be in a position of power to resolve conflicts. She warned that this power struggle could lead to significant issues if not addressed.

Meanwhile, the father, who had previously been passive, recognized the seriousness of the situation and attempted to discipline Geumjok. However, Geumjok lashed out at his mother while being held by his father. Despite Geumjok's resistance, the father maintained his grip, but after an hour of struggle, Geumjok began to verbally abuse him. In a moment of frustration, the father raised his voice for the first time, saying, 'Stop!'

Startled by her father's sudden outburst, Geumjok reacted by rushing towards a window, alarming everyone present. The father quickly restrained him again, leading to a tense standoff that lasted about two hours, during which Geumjok eventually broke down in tears.

Dr. Oh emphasized the importance of Geumjok experiencing healthy frustration and praised the couple for their efforts over the three-hour ordeal. However, she pointed out that their disciplinary approach ultimately failed, stressing that parents must maintain control in teaching right from wrong.
