Comedian Lee Kyung-kyu Faces Drug Driving Allegations After Disturbing Footage Emerges

Comedian Lee Kyung-kyu (이경규), 65, has come under scrutiny following the release of surveillance footage showing him involved in multiple accidents on the day he was accused of driving under the influence of drugs. His agency, ADG Company, issued a public apology on June 26, acknowledging the distress caused to fans and the public due to recent media reports.

The agency stated, "Lee Kyung-kyu has cooperated fully with the police investigation, providing truthful accounts regarding his health and the circumstances of his driving. He deeply regrets causing concern due to his negligence." They emphasized the importance of not driving while in poor health, regardless of whether he was taking prescribed medication.

On the day of the incident, Lee was reportedly taking medication for panic disorder and cold symptoms while traveling to a medical appointment. Despite this, his agency admitted that he should have exercised greater caution.

Footage released earlier that day showed Lee lightly colliding with a parked bus while attempting to park, then exiting his vehicle and walking on the road instead of the sidewalk. The video also captured him hitting a wall at a car wash before making an illegal left turn across a double line on a road without traffic lights.

On June 8, Lee was stopped by police after mistakenly driving another person's vehicle due to a parking attendant's error. He underwent a drug test, which returned a positive result, leading to formal charges of drug driving.

The police have officially charged Lee Kyung-kyu with drug driving, as the Road Traffic Act prohibits driving under the influence of substances that impair normal driving ability, even if they are prescription medications.

After completing his police questioning on June 24, Lee expressed regret, stating, "I did not fully realize that I should not drive while taking panic disorder medication. I apologize for disappointing my long-time supporters."
